The following open letter was sent by Met NY President Toby Butterfield:

On behalf of Met New York RFU, your host for this year's inaugural NRU Combined Mens Playoffs, thanks for all the sportsmanship, camraderie and high quality rugby displayed this weekend. We hope you all enjoyed it andwill want to come back to Randall's Island next time it's Met NY's turn to host.

Starting a new tradition, and with the recommendation of the Rugby Referees Society, NRU also awarded its new Sportsmanship Award to Middlesex coach Josh Smith. Congrats to him and to all this weekend's winners.

Results are below and will remain for a time at www.nruplayoffs.org. For your players, 355 professional quality photographs from both days are at: http://brownhoundphotos.com/Sports/2009Rugby/NRU-Playoffs-November-2009 . Photographer Jess Bunshaft volunteered to take, crop and upload them, so please buy a $2.50 hi-res download or a print as a gift for a teammate to help cover his costs.

Thanks also to our sterling Host Committee, chaired by Bret Costain and numbering Patrick English, Chris Gunsten, Bill Callahan, Chris Page, Ted Perkins, Dr. Victor Lopez and many others who ensured the tournament went off on time and without any major problems.

This year, the growth of the youth game, the Olympics and public attention on rugby generated by "Invictus" provide rare opportunities. We must manage them well or risk squandering them, so we welcome feedback and ideas on how to improve events like this. Good luck in 2010 and a Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Sincerely,
Toby Butterfield
President, Met New York RFU
